It's no secret that our political and social climate is riddled with change. Many of that change has been made by old white men. Well, all that change is being met with some competing change, this time by women and girls of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
Tonight I was able to sit down at a letter writing party where some fellow women (and a few men!) came together to formulate some letters to senators and other elected officials about change, about what we want to accomplish, and what we don't want.
Here are some things that some great gals had to say.
"Senator Harris,
Please vote no on Betsy Devos, she is ill-equipped so serve." - Jennifer
"Senator Feinstein,
As a nation of immigrants, we cannot stand idly by as we refuse to accept Syrian refugees for reasons of racism, xenophobia, and elitism, I urge you to work on the senate floor for compassion and inclusion." - Hannah
"Senator McCain,
I am a woman, I am a Christian, I am a part of the LGBT community, and I am a student. You are my voice. Please represent me at the capital." - Madison
"Senator Flake,
You represent me. Please make sure that I, a woman, a student, a muslim, am represented." - Jasmine
"Representative Devin Nunes,
I am a woman, I am a survivor of sexual assault, I am a friend to LGBTQ+ members. Be our voice. Represent us." - Alice
"Senator Kamala Harris,
Vote NO on Betsy De Vos! Be our voice!" - Rachel
"Mayor Brand,
I find your comments regarding Syrian refugees to be deplorable. Our community is above this. We are better than this, and we are KINDER than this. Do not let this be your legacy. Be compassionate, be inclusive, be accepting. Our community is needed." - Olivia
"Representative Gallego,
I am so glad that you have chosen to represent my district as an advocate, but please know that I need your help. You can be my voice. I need you to use your power in order to be representative of people who cannot stand up. Stick up for those who try to stifle us. Please." - Maddy
"...hear me, know me, represent me. You are my VOICE." - Meg
