Dear Long Distance Best Friend

I miss you best friend.

Dear My Long Distance Best Friend,

I miss you. I miss our talks about anything and everything. I miss the laughs we had 24/7. All the inside jokes that just aren't quite the same now that we don't see each other in person. Talking on the phone, texting or even facetiming is not like being face to face. But you know what, living far away from you makes it that much better the next time we see each other. I've realized the benefits of having a friend like you that lives far away. We get to travel to see each other and who doesn't like to travel? It's fun getting to fly to see you and you flying to see me. So many different adventures are possible when being able to travel to different states to see each other. One of my favorites things to do is write letters. Having a pen pal makes everything more exciting. I can actually look forward to mail every other week. Instead of getting bills or unnecessary items in the mail, I get something that I actually can get excited for. I cherish the times that we get to hang out. Not having you around all the time makes the little things so much more fun the next time we see each other. Shopping, getting our nails done, just catching up, even doing a little gossiping always seems better after not being able to do those types of things for months at a time. There are some cons about you being so far away though.. When I need someone to talk to, the phone sometimes isn't the same. You know how to cheer me up and it's more difficult to cheer someone up over the phone than in person. It's hard going through relationship problems, breakups, and heartbreaks without you here, but you know what to do to make it seem like you are here. I always worry that maybe one day our conversations will fade, but I now realize that no matter what happens our friendship will always be there to kick long distance's butt. I know we don't live close to each other now, but one of these days that will change. No matter how old we are I know we will end up in the same state sooner or later. If it's not until we are old, I know we will end up in the same place as old women, with gray hair and walkers. We will still be gossiping, shopping, and getting our nails done, but this time we will be just a little bit older. Life without you here isn't the same but I can't wait for our next adventure.. whatever it may be. We are friends for a reason so I would just like to say that I can't wait to grow old and gray with you with a glass of wine in our hands and cheese ready as an appetizer. Just so you know, you're stuck with me and my wine obsession.

From,

Your Long Distance Best Friend

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
