Dear Childhood Best Friend,
Happy 20th birthday! Holy crap, I've known you for basically your entire life and have been there for every single one of your birthdays. Who could forget your 5th birthday party when you had Cinderella come to your house? I loved all the birthdays I tagged along with your family to pick out the best birthday cake from the Ice Cream Cottage, and more recently, the day trips to NYC to have a day out with the girls. But let's not forget about your Sweet 16 when I cried with your sister for twenty whole minutes because your candle ceremony speech for me was so beautiful.
I'm so lucky to be able to say that I've known my best friend for our entire lives, and so blessed to be able to say that we've spent almost every single one of our birthdays together. Basically, I'm writing this as a happy birthday letter from one lifelong best friend to another; I hope your day is as magical and beautiful as you are:
This year will mark eighteen years of friendship between us. How could we have known at the ages of two and three that we'd still be friends at twenty and twenty-one? Looking back, I couldn't imagine my life without you.
The first day we met was the first day you moved into the house next door to mine. Our families introduced ourselves to each other through a small chain link fence that separated our yards. From that moment on we became inseparable. People used to think we were sisters; they said we looked alike and we definitely talked and acted like sisters.
From dance recitals to staying up all night playing video games, talking to each other on ChatNows and endless sleepovers, we grew up together and made the best memories.
We used to play dress up, then we went shopping for prom dresses, and in the future, we'll be picking out each other's wedding dresses! There is no doubt in my mind that we'll be friends for the rest of our lives, even if we're not together.
But like any friendship, there were hard times too. When I went to a different school than you did (because I'm a year older), we couldn't spend as much time together as we normally would have. My freshman year of college was tough when we were no longer in high school together, we hardly had any time to see each other.
We've been there for each other through everything; breakups and make-ups, drama with boys and other friends, and even the passing of grandparents, but we've gotten each other through it all.
I am so grateful for our amazing friendship and I can't wait to make a million more memories with you! Even though we're planning on moving away from our hometown, we'll always be as close as ever.
Thank you for the best friendship I could have ever asked the universe for. I love you!
Love,
Your Best Friend
P.S. Happy 20th Birthday!!!
