A Letter To My Beautiful Sisters

Despite all the fights we had when younger, I could never ask for better sisters.

Strong willed and smart.

Independent and well rounded.

Fun, loving, and creative.

All things that describe my sisters perfectly. This letter is to you.

Dear my younger sisters,

Despite being the older sister, I look up to both of you. With your sharp minds and intelligence, I know you both can accomplish way more than I ever could. Don't feel as if you are compared to me because you are your own person, and you are both beautiful people.

Despite how our relationship may have been as we were younger, I hope that in the years to come, we all become even closer than we are now. Even though we may live 614 miles away from each other, I think about you both every day and don't go one day without wishing I could tell you in person about things that happen in my life.

A life without you two in it is incomplete and I love you so much.

I encourage you to do to better in life than I have and be the best you, you can be. Dont listen to the haters in life and do everything you plan to do in life. Become a fashion designer, a cook, or a doctor; whatever you choose in life, despite my hardness in your choices, I am your biggest supporter and only want to see you do well in life.

We can all annoy each other in many ways, and we've shared it all, dressed alike, and have similar qualities, and I wouldn't choose anyone else to get into fights with and annoy for the rest of my life. You didn't think you were getting out that easy did you?

It's sometimes hard to believe you guys will always be someone in my life that is taking a journey not too far behind me. I hope that you look at me and strive to do more in life because I am already so proud to have such intelligent, beautiful, fun, and purely amazing sisters.

Not looking at age, and all of the past, I still consider you guys my best of friends because no matter what, I will always be there for you. Even if I had to catch a plane to help you out, I would do it in a heartbeat, no matter how hard it may be.

Although we argue and fight with each other a lot, at the end of the day, there is no one that cares about me at the same level as much as you two do, and for that, I will forever be blessed and grateful

I am here to say, thanks for sticking through all of the past with me and I am very much looking to our future together and how much you both inspire me and motivate me more and more each day to be the best me and take my own advice.

Despite all the fights we had when younger, I could never ask for better sisters. Never stop being you.

Love you forever,

Big Sis

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
