An Honest Letter To My Senior-Year Self

This was orginally an assignment for one of my classes until I realized how much I really needed this.

An Honest Letter To My Senior-Year Self
Morgan Paige Grant

Dear senior-year self,

It has been a crazy adventure since you graduated on June 4th of 2016. You have worked your butt off at Alabama to get good grades and to stay organized and to try and adult like a normal person. Even though you still suck at math you're doing pretty big things here and you are transforming into the person you have always wanted to be!

Let's start with the fact that you are actually friends with girls — yes, you can be friends with girls! You are living in an all-girl dorm and some days you honestly hate it and wish you could just joke around with a guy and not talk about "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette," but it really is not as bad as you thought it would be! Here is another secret, you even found your best friend down here and you all are getting a house together next year, she's pretty awesome and when you introduced yourself to her you told her she was your spirit animal because yes, you're still awkward.

Now, you're probably wondering about your work friends from back home, do you still talk? And yeah, you keep in touch as much as possibly, but you are busy and so are they. You miss them like crazy to be honest and hope they are all doing well and you really miss their faces and hugs and words of encouragement. You also kind of lost your best friend because you were a brat and at first it really sucked and you missed him a lot, but it is getting easier because you know you did what was best for the two of you and you hope he is doing well.

You have a life here, but you really miss home, but I promise you it will get better. You have really started to realize how much home meant to you and how much the people there are what made home hard to leave. You really miss your parents, basically every day. You can't wait to go visit home and burst through the door and well, first say hello to all of your cats, but then hug Ma's neck and tell her all about your friends you have made and listen to her make fun of your stories. You also can't wait to go see Pappy and joke around with him and hear him say he is proud of you. You even kind of miss your big sister, shocker right? You like to think she misses you too, but one can only dream.

You really have grown up, Moe, even when you went to visit your sister's friend he said you looked more grown up, and you are going to do such big things down here in Alabama. I am so proud of the things that you have accomplished and the friends that you have made and I can't wait to watch you grow up more in the next three years and I can't wait until you are in the field of your dreams kicking ass and taking names just like Mimi would have wanted you to do!

Love you so big,

An older, wiser Morgan

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
