Dear Dad,
I'm not sure where to begin this letter since I have so much to say. I guess I should start off by telling you all the things I'm grateful you do for me, even the lessons you've taught me. There definitely highlights during out hunting memories, too.
First, I want you to know how thankful I am for everything you do for me. When I was younger, you spent countless hours at softball practices, softball games, and even coaching. You pushed me hard because you wanted me to be the best I could be, and in hindsight, I should've pushed myself to be better like you wanted me to.
We used to butt heads a lot on the subject of softball and my, let us say half-ass performance, but now looking back I wish I would've done more to be the best I could've been. It's a common thing, looking back at what could've been, and I was just too young and ignorant to realize I had potential.
I am thankful that you and mom have done so much for me in my life, and I know I haven't voiced it nearly enough. From taking me on trips all across the world to paying for my education, the both of you have done more for me than I could list in just one short article.
My thanks extend deep for both tangible and intangible items. Thanks to you guys, I have been blessed to have a nice vehicle, the best equipment for sports, and unlimited opportunities to do the things that make me happy. I love you both more than words, and no actions or purchases could ever repay you for those items and experiences.
You have done your best to teach me valuable lessons throughout my life. I know that I have not always understood, and I definitely haven't been the easiest to get along with during the teaching of said lessons. You have prepared me for the real world through life lessons about the value of money and hard work.
Growing up watching you make sure our family is always taken care of and never without is an inspiration for me to work hard to provide for myself during and after college. You work harder than you get credit for, and I hope you know that I truly look up to you for that.
Let's talk about some hunting memories, though; those are among my favorites with you. Thank you for introducing me to duck hunting, something you grew up bonding over with your grandfather and can now bond over with me. I didn't need another hobby to be addicted to, especially one that is quite expensive, but I enjoy our trips and our time hunting together more than you know.
Remember that day we were checking out the swamp at the land in Powhatan and you stepped wrong and started going down? You started to sink in some mud and reached for me, taking me down too, soaking me. It sucked at the time but it's funny as can be now.
Standing alongside you in your home state of Arkansas calling in ducks last year was the most incredible experience. I can't wait until we load up in just a few weeks and head out for another trip. We have made some incredible memories, some really great friends, and some even better traditions. We now bond over inside jokes, practicing calling in the house, and daydreaming about winning the lottery and traveling across the country to chase ducks.
I value the lessons you've taught me, the memories we have made, and every single thing you do for me more than words could ever explain. Thank you for being more than an amazing dad, but also an amazing friend.
I love you Dad!
xoxo
