We’ve all been through traditions, we’ve all gotten training for our specific role and location, and we’ve all gone through the trials that are dealing with guests. We all have those days where we just can’t deal with what we’re dealt, and we’ve gone through the days where we just want to give up and quit because it would be easy.
Working for Disney is great. It’s one of the best companies, it has a variety of roles for anyone and for anything you want to do, and, most importantly, it’s a company that brings happiness and magic to people who may not find it anywhere else. We all have those Leaders and Coordinators that make times difficult, but we also have Leaders and Coordinators who make it worthwhile. We have fellow cast members that keep us afloat when we think we’re going to drown.
We work for a company that’s main goal is to make people happy. We focus on Guest Experience and making magic for our Guests. We want everyone to leave the parks and resorts thinking that this is the best vacation they’ve ever had, and they can’t wait to go back. Now, of course, like with anything else, guests leaving happy isn’t always the case. Sometimes there is a bad attitude that came from work and entered their vacation and ruined it. It happens.
This is a reminder.
Remember that first day you went under the Walt Disney World sign with Mickey and Minnie Mouse smiling and greeting you? Remember that intense amount of emotion you felt when you saw Cinderella Castle for the first time, or when you saw the boss man bringing in your name tag? Remember all of that?
You may have to remember it, but that’s something that Guests experience every day. There is someone new that enters Orlando and goes under that sign and feels that intense emotion of happiness and giddiness. They’re reminded of their love for Disney and those characters that they fell in love with when they were younger. They may be experiencing something completely new that they’ve never felt before, or maybe it’s their 800th trip to Disney.
Regardless of any of that, just remember. Remember that, even if you had to deal with a grumpy guest or your Leader is bringing you down, you have a job that no one else in this world has. You are one of 70,000 Cast Members that can change someone’s life. One small thing, even just a simple conversation that you can have with someone, is inspiring. It’s something completely unique to Disney.
Yes, work is hard. I won’t deny that. There are those days where you think “It would be so easy to self-term. So much easier than working here.’ And yeah, it probably would be easier. We aren’t doing this job because it’s easy, though. We’re doing this job to make a difference. In whatever way possible, we are making a difference.
So if you’re having a hard time, if you’re thinking about just quitting, remember that day at Traditions. Remember driving under the sign and walking through the tunnels. Remember seeing how all the magic is done, and remember that, although it’s not always a glamorous job backstage, it’s the magic that you can create that makes it glamorous. It’s the magic you bring to life for the young princess from Make-A-Wish and her family. It’s the happiness you bring to a woman whose going to Disney for the first time at age 42.
You can create that, and not many people can say that.
