To everyone that ever doubted me, thank you.
From the “supportive” guidance counselor to the people who told me I wouldn’t graduate, thank you. Due to the way that you treated me, I ended up becoming more successful than you ever thought I would be.
I was told I’d never be accepted to a major university. Well, last summer, I was accepted to Northeastern University.
I was told I’d never have the “good jobs.” Well, a year ago, I accepted a position at one of the best hospitals in the nation on the orthopedic trauma unit. This February, I transferred within the same hospital to the emergency department.
But, I was told I’d never be successful. I was told I would never be good enough to have a job other than something minimum wage.
But I guess everyone was wrong, because I commute two hours every single day to work at a place I love working at, with people I love working with.
If I had listened to what everyone was telling me, I’d be making minimum wage. But instead, I work at a major trauma center, and I’m going to school like everyone else. It may take me longer to complete my degree, but that’s only because I have to work full time too.
So, stop ruining people’s dreams just because you’re trying to be “realistic.” Sometimes your “realistic” view is far from correct.
But, thank you for telling me I’d be a failure.
Sincerely,
The person that one day may save your life.
