To Those Who Are Anxious About The Future,

I know you're at a confusing time in your life right now. You might know who you want to be or where you want to end up, but maybe you don't quite have it together, or you're living day by day with the fear of not knowing what's going to happen.

Maybe you're a soon-to-be college graduate and don't have a plan or don't know if you'll be successful. Maybe you're a freshman with an undecided major and are afraid you'll never figure out what you want to do when you "grow up." Maybe you're attempting to pick up the pieces of a relationship you once thought would last forever, and you're unsure if you'll ever be able to move on and love again.

Whatever your situation, you're full of anxiety. Part of that might be excitement, but it's mostly uncertainty and doubt. And, just so you know, your feelings are completely valid, understandable and normal.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being anxious or afraid. It’s human nature to have fear and doubts when we’re unsure of something. You also may feel like you’re the only one feeling this way about the future, but you most certainly are not. Even when it seems like everyone around you has it all together, they’re probably not as calm, cool and collected as you think; they’re probably having many of the same feelings as you.

You're never alone.

Hopefully that alleviates some of your anxiety, but I know you need something more, so here it is:

Everything is going to work out for you.

I know that sounds cliche, but it's the truth. You will figure things out. It may take time and it might be a rough journey, but there will be a light at the end of the tunnel, and you will reach it.

Never give up, although there will be times where you feel like giving up is your only option.

And, if you're stuck trying to make a decision, your uncertainty holding you back, take a leap of faith. Take chances with all that you do; you never know what you could be missing out on if you turn your back on something or simply don't try in the first place. Sure, things could wind up badly, but it could also end up being one of the best chances you've ever taken. But even if it doesn't, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you gave it a shot, and you'll probably learn something in the end.

It's much easier said than done, but don't let fear of the future and uncertainty of what's to come hold you back from living each day to the fullest. Live in each moment and give everything 110 percent.

Your future isn't written in stone, but that's what makes it so exciting. You have the freedom to decide how you're going to live and where you're going to go. You might not know right now, but that's okay.

You'll figure it out.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
