A Letter To The Trump Protestors

He is your president, too.

To the "peaceful" protestors,

Donald J. Trump, the 45th president of the United States of America, was inaugurated yesterday; and America turned into a sea of people claiming to be "peaceful" protestors. "Not my president" was screamed all across the nation yesterday as each and every protestor conceded defeat. Every recount and loophole they thought could keep him out of office had been blown out of the water and Donald Trump, was in fact their president. Despite how many signs or hashtags they came up with to try and say he wasn't.

A peaceful protest has been defined as nonviolent resistance or action to express disagreement. As Americans, we do have the right to peaceful protest and I am proud to live in a country where I have the right to do so. Lining up the entire length of a street, blocking cars, and screaming profanity at those passing by- NOT a peaceful protest. When police officers, the people that get paid to protect us, are being harmed; that is not peaceful protesting. There is nothing peaceful about wreaking havoc on your own country.

All 50 states inaugurated a new president yesterday. We do not get to pick and choose where Trump is president. We also do not get to just decide that he is "not our president". This is America and we pride ourselves on democracy, Donald Trump was elected through a democracy, he is your president.

The protestors want to say that Trump is going to set the country back several hundred years. By not supporting your fellow citizens, you are the ones setting the country back. Our founding fathers and all that came before us worked so hard to create a country that we can live and be free in. Who are we to destroy that?

Whether you support Donald Trump or not, he is still your president. No amount of protesting in the streets or social media posts attacking him will change this. Marching, breaking windows, hashtags screaming "not my president", none of this will make Trump not your president.

Like it or not, we're all on this ship together. Why should we be hoping that the captain fails? This man holds the fate of OUR country in his two hands. We should be lining up behind him in support, not falling to the sides to throw hatred in his direction. We are all on this ship together. The fate of every American rests upon his shoulders and we need to be there supporting him.

Let's not toss things through Starbucks windows, let's not block the streets, let's not divide the country even farther than it already is. How about we stand behind the captain of this ship?

Imagine if we took all the negative energy from these so called "peaceful protests" and channeled it into supporting our president and wanting what is best for our country. No matter what side you fall on, shouldn't we all have hopes of making America great again?

Sincerely,

An American standing behind the captain of our ship.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
