A Letter To The Tarleton State Football Team

To the Tarleton State football players, coaches and families:

It is with an unclear head and heavy heart that I write this letter. I am fully aware that there is nothing I can say in this to take your pain away although I wish more than anything that I could.

You should never have to experience the heartache of losing someone so close to you. Someone you grew with, learned with, played with, lost with and won with. You should never have to deal with the fear and confusion that comes with that. I cannot begin to express how sorry I am. And I know that sorry does absolutely nothing, but I can't seem to find any fitting words.

The number of losses you all have suffered as a team is unreal and frankly unfair. Yet I hope you see the amount of love you have from above. You have a team of guardian angels watching over you. I wish I could tell you something, anything that could help put your minds and hearts at ease, but honestly I know there isn't. There isn't some magical word, line or phrase that is going to take all of your pain and suffering away. Though I can't take that awful tragedy away from you there is something I can tell you ...

I can remind you that you have a HUGE family that stands behind you. I don't know about other schools but I know how Tarleton stands tall in the face of tragedy. I know that we have each others backs off the field as a family, that bleeds purple in the same way you do so on the field. I can tell you that we are hurting with you. While every single one of us may have not known each person individually. I know that there is an unspoken bond between us as Texans. I can tell you that they will be honored in the best way we know. I can tell you that you are some of the strongest men I know and are truly leaders on campus.

I know I can't understand your pain. I wish I could and I know my peers feel the same. We would never wish what you are going through upon anyone but we will continue to support you through it. We will do whatever we can and personally I pray that y'all have been tested enough. I know God uses his best and strongest warriors in battle and I know at times it doesn't seem that simple. You have each been tested and persevered as strong and remarkable men.

I hope with all my heart that you utilize your family during this time. Both your personal family and the one you have gained with Tarleton State University. We are always here as thousands of sets of shoulders to lean on. We walk with you in this journey and you are never alone with us by your side.

We are Tarleton strong.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
