Dear stars,
It almost feels silly writing to you, considering that you aren't a person and there is no way you could actually read this. It seems so silly until I remember the fact that, at this very moment, there are thousands of people wishing upon you. There are countless people out there relying on you, and only you, to make their wildest dreams and fantasies come true -- yet you're just flaming balls of gas.So if they can make wishes to you, why can't I thank you for what you've done?
You see, our lives are much like a night sky. Without you, stars, our night skies are nothing but darkness. Similarly, without lights igniting our life, we live nothing but a perpetuating vast sea of hopelessness. Without sparks of purpose, we can feel we have succumbed to the darkness that is our own life, and we feel as though we can't escape from that sometimes. Yet, if someone feels trapped within this darkness, all they have to do is look to you. All they have to do is wait for the sun to set and wait for your arrival. Then, they see it. They see the way that the millions of you brighten up the darkness, and how the only way light can ever be seen is if darkness exists.
Because of you, stars, we have hope.
So I want to give you my greatest thanks, stars, because not only have you given millions of people hope, but you are the reason that my faith in the Lord is as strong as it is.
When I look out to you at night, I feel it is hardly coincidental that one of the most beautiful sights in the world occurs when people need it the most. It seems like, at night, it's so easy to fall into your sad thoughts. It's so easy for a person to think about the wrongs that have been done to them in life, as well as the wrongs that they've done to others. The evening is the perfect time to conjure up their thoughts of all the people they miss, all the chances they never took, and all the moments they wish they could take back. I've realized, however, that our God is very smart. He knows us more than we know ourselves, and that's why He gave us you. God gave you to us so that when we're lying awake at night, being reminded of all the wrongs and negativity of our lives, we can look up at the sky. We can see that not only is there a light in our darkness, but the dark is where light flourishes the most. Because you don't just magically appear in the sky, stars; you're always there, day and night. It's not until the sun sets that we see your beauty, and I feel that that is God's reminder to us that we wouldn't cherish our good moments if we did not have the bad. The bright and shining stars in our lives would mean nothing to us if we didn't have dark memories to look back on.
Again I say, thank you, stars. Thank you for being a wish to the brokenhearted; thank you for being constant hope to people surrounded in darkness. Most of all, thank you for being a reason for people to see our God.
Sincerely,
Just an admirer of yours
