Letter To Anyone That Asks "Really?! You Want To Be A Teacher?!"

We get it. We've heard the comments. Yet we still want to teach. It will be okay!

"What are you majoring in?"

"Early childhood education"

"Oh goodness, really?"

Why yes. Yes I am.

As an education major it seems like everywhere you turn you hear someone saying, "there is no money in teaching" or "I could never handle kids all day everyday". Okay, well maybe you can't and maybe there isn't any money in teaching but it is enough to live comfortably off of.

Hearing these responses can sometimes be frustrating and sometimes it is hard to stay calm and just respond with a giggle and a nice little "well yea" in hopes that the conversation will end there.

I chose this major for a reason. Along with every other early childhood education major. Or education major period.

We all have a heart for kids. We love them and we desire to see them grow and learn to the best of their ability. We want to take part in helping create the future leaders, teachers, farmers, etc of America.

Kids are our future. They have to be taught so if everyone listened to all of the "you sure you don't want to change your major?" comments who would teach your kids or grand kids?

No doubt it is going to be tough at times. That comes with any job!

No doubt sometimes money may be tight. That also comes with just about any job!

It's life.

Teachers always seem to catch all of the rude comments. The unnecessary comments.

Yes, all of them are true majority of the time but it's not all about the money. God will provide, promise ya that!

It doesn't bother us to have to spend hours at the school even when school is over to make sure that everything is ready for class the next day or to grade papers.

We understand that sometimes kids will not listen and they will give us a hard time but that comes with kids in general. You have to expect that every now and then, Everyone has an off day sometimes.

So with all of this being said, the next time someone tells you that they are majoring in education rather than coming at them with the comments above (or comments along those lines) try encouraging them! Guarantee you that watching their reaction and seeing how they respond may change your outlook on it all.

Keep in mind that we ALL know what we are getting ourselves into. We know that the states guidelines are ridiculous at times, that there isn't a whole pile of money involved like there may be for a doctor or lawyer, that kids are going to be kids so there will be bad days. We know all of this yet we still have a huge desire to help better the future of our country by doing our best to teach and train the students that come through our classrooms.

Thank you,

Every education major

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
