Millennials! Wow does that word seem scary, but, it really isn't. In the media for years now many people in this generation and younger are getting slammed for being lazy, rude, entitled or having a lack of intelligence. Granted there are some of us who fit the bill, but news flash to the people bashing and critiquing us-- you have them too. We're human; we make mistakes and we learn from them. Having the older generations constantly battering and beating down the ones who are going to be the future leaders is just not right. Always hearing the "you kids nowadays always on your phones" or "you're lazy" or "none of you younger kids have a drive to do anything anymore" will make people believe this is true. Millennials have been proving in the media and in their hometowns that they can accomplish more than most people in high end positions can.
Now what I mean by this is always teach the ones still learning but don't bash an entire group of individuals for some peoples mistakes. Let me put it this way, we are a bright group still thriving and growing and when people who are supposed to push us along, tell us all that we are lazy, well, some may believe that. Others take that negativity and use it as their motivation to prove that anything is possible. We want to strive to prove that we're more than what people tell us we are. From Millennials like Malala, who spoke out for young girls in Pakistan for their education, to Jack Andraka who invented a pancreatic detection tool, young individuals show they can make their mark. So many Millennials prove to society today that they aren't afraid to fight and strive for greater achievements.
We are awakened and driven to change the world. So many Millennials are going to school to seek and make a difference in society. We care about today's social issues and so many of us stand up to showcase our beliefs. Almost all Millennials (and I say almost because there are some out there who tend to disagree) accept every human being from what they wear, who they love, the color of their skin and what they practice religiously. Love is love and that's how it should always be. We get our voices out through the Internet and through the microphone. We are a generation that defies social constructs and sways to our own rhythm. We are the generation of change.
To the older generations who may think this is a bash on them: it is not. Many Millennials respect their elders because it is only right and just. Although, I ask of you to please build us up instead of putting down our radical ideals. To teach, rather than scoff at. Show respect towards us, rather than believing that we are just young kids who don't know any better. Some day, many of us will be your doctors, your teachers, your colleagues or your leaders. Don't be afraid to believe in the impossible.
Cheers to the Millennials, go out and make your mark!
