A Letter to the LGBT Community

Here is something I'd like to share

A Letter to the LGBT Community
imaginary foundation

This is an opinionative post so if you're a person that is highly offended, maybe this article isn't for you. I want to discuss something very specific that I experienced and hopefully elaborate on it in a positive manner. A professor I've had is a transgender individual. However, this was never really noticeable. I never went into her classroom, expecting to be freaked out that this was a "man" in front of me. There was one day, as a writer, when I went into the lecture with a very analytical approach. I wanted to try to place myself in her shoes. She went about her daily routine and maybe on this day, my brain was working different but I had an immense sense of admiration.

Admiration, you ask. Yes, admiration. I admire her strength. I admire the strength of every individual in the LGBT community. It would be easy. It would be so easy to just give in, to satisfy what society seems as "normal". She could have given up at any point in her life. She could have looked at herself in the mirror and just said, "F*ck it." But she didn't. And to this day, doesn't. Can you even imagine the strength someone needs to come out and openly present him or herself as different? Especially when that "different" carries a negative stigma?

I thought about how much hatred she's endured in her life. I thought about all the people that refused to understand and spit vile repulsive comments. I thought about how just this one individual of the LGBT community endured so much pain due to the inability for the collective to just have acceptance. Isn't that sad? Humans are known to display animosity to things they cannot understand. We as humans resort to anger and violence in times of confusion. With that being said, wouldn't you feel a sense of admiration for someone standing in front of a classroom of 30 plus students every day, that knows all the history behind her life choice and she still stands proudly?

I've come to a strange point in my life where I don't want to live a regretful life. I don't want to make decisions that I will regret. Living a life with narrow guidelines seems to be the most common and hopeless life. What I ask is that you think about how each and every person has his or her own story. And that there is always more than meets the eye.

I am very thankful that my professor stands proud and I am thankful that I chose to seek acceptance and understanding over a refusal of interest.

We're such amazing species. We have endless possibilities and many of us can make our lives however we want. All I ask is that you adapt the current times. It's 2016, and we really need to find some peaceful resolutions within our communities or we will not prevail. We are all the same, we just happened to not be able to choose our rental bodies. Spread the love. Spread the positivity. Set the bar for the younger generations.

I thank every individual out there giving the finger to society. You are my inspiration for writing. I write for you.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
