Stop.
Seriously. Stop.
For the love of all that is good, stop.
We know that your ex is a jerk, we know that you hate that group of mean girls from your high school, and we know that you are disproving some person who told you that you couldn’t do it. It’s time for us all to move on.
In the grand scheme of life, how much do those negative people really matter? My guess is that you probably don’t even talk to them anymore, so the hypothetical writing of this letter does not help because they won’t read it anyway.
If you’re so impacted by this past person, write them an actual letter and send it. These hypothetical letters just add to the passive-aggressive state that you are finding yourself in as you work up the courage to press submit.
I don’t mean to be negative. I don’t want this to turn into a “letter to the guy who thinks he knows where I’m coming from,” but I do. We all have a past. We all have people who tell us that we can’t do it. God calls us to look ahead.
Philippians 3:13-14 says, “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” This was written by Paul who had been through a rougher past than we could ever imagine. He understands that in order to do what God has called us to do, we must accept a new life that God has given us and step forward in confidence.
Maybe you don’t fall into this category. Maybe you do.
I’ve found myself in a very similar place.
Don’t press submit.
Press forward.
Let it go.
