A Letter To The Children

The children of the future will create greatness no matter who is in office.

A Letter To The Children
Harvard

After the election many parents have taken to social media and the news to express their concern and worry for their children and their future. Many have even asked the question, “what do I tell my children?” This letter is for the children of those concerned parents.

To the Children of America,

Do not be scared of your future. Do not be afraid for your life. Sweet ones, you will be safe and life will continue on as it should. A new president has been elected and his name is Donald Trump. You may be too young to know Mr. Trump’s history and now all you hear is the bad things he has done and what the news and media choose to cover. A lot of people will tell you that Trump is a big mistake, and other people will tell you that Mrs.Clinton would have been the worst choice. Right now, your parents might be scared because what you might not know or understand is that people are putting their lives and others' at risk by protesting and creating a divide in our country. But don’t worry sweet ones, you will be safe, and life will continue on as it should.

There is negativity surrounding you in this world and just remember to always maintain positivity. Soon, it will be your turn to make a difference and make choices, and when you do, remember to remain open-minded and kind-hearted. Remember to keep hatred out of your heart and mind because it will cloud your judgment if you let it. Others will tell you what to think and do and will try to make you be someone you are not, but do not let them break who you are. When it comes to politics, it seems like a big deal now, but just wait until you are old enough to vote. Make sure you exercise your right to vote and do your research and remain neutral when looking at the candidates. It will seem extremely daunting and there will be protests and arguments like there are now, but don’t worry sweet ones, you will be safe and life will continue on as it should.

You might be hearing that people will not accept our new president and that they wish failure on him. You have to remain open-minded and wish for his success. He does not have to be liked but to wish anything other than success for him is asking for failure and destruction of our own country for the next four years. Put faith and trust into a man that we all hope will do right by all of us. I know it is difficult to give him a chance, but remember that for the rest of your life, changes will come up and you have to adjust and give those changes a chance; but don’t worry sweet ones, you will be safe and life will continue on as it should.

Do not allow a divide in this country, for now is not the time. Now we must all stand united as one to create a strength that no man or woman could break. You will learn of the fights the US has fought together in the past and you will learn of the internal conflicts that have been fought by a united front. This is no different, sweet ones. Remain determined for positive change and be ready to fight back with strength and unity if all else fails. This is truly a great nation, as you will learn, and all together we will succeed in even the darkest days. These will not be our darkest days if we remain united and open minded. You and your generation will be a change that we hope for, do not allow this election to hinder or harm the greatness that you all can become. Do not let the reactions of others serve as an example of how to act when it seems that things have gone downhill. Remember to dig in your heels and work your way back up to the top with others who are willing to stand strong and fight back with unity, in the most positive way possible. This country will remain great, no matter who is in office, because, sweet ones, you will create safety and you will make sure life will continue on as it should.

Sincerely,

The people who know that all will be well.

You need sleep, but also have 13 things due in the span of 4 days.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!
