A Letter To The Best Friend I Made At College

I'm so lucky to have met you.

To my best friend that I met in college,

I never would have thought that coming to college would reward me with someone as wonderful as you. Although you didn't like me at first (which I think is hilarious), we both grew to love each other and understand one another in a way that I had never shared with another friend. After our first year together, I felt like I had known you for a lifetime, not just the nine odd months we had spent at school during our freshman year. You became another piece to my whole and now I can't imagine my life without you.

We have so many memories together that I am so thankful for, and they exist because we just happened to choose to attend the same university. Whether it was eating too much dessert at the dining hall, talking for hours snuggled up in each other's beds or just being silly, you've helped make every memory a good one. Don't get me wrong, friends that meet in college fight like any other friends do. But, we have this weird way of fighting where we get everything out in five minutes and then laugh about it ten minutes later because it's so hard to be mad at each other.

It was kind of coincidental meeting you, considering we're only 10 minutes apart at home and we never knew it until we met at college, but it never makes saying goodbye any easier. If it's leaving for the weekend or leaving for the summer, you and I are both silently counting down the hours until the other returns. We miss each other like long-lost sisters and that makes my heart happy because I don't have siblings of my own.

College has been so wonderful to me, in this way, because it brought me you and I know I'll have you for life. I imagine us going crazy together when we each get jobs after graduation, you helping me move into my future home and standing near the altar at my wedding. You've become so meaningful to me in such a short amount of time because realistically, college doesn't last as long as everyone would like you to believe it does. Time flies and I'm lucky to have spent my college career with you by my side.

I love you, and I will forever. Thanks for being you.

Love, me

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
