Dear Best Friend,
I've never actually met you in person. Never talked to you face to face, never hugged you, never heard you laugh out loud right in front of me. And yet, for more than a year now, I've skyped you, sent you virtual hugs, and listened to your laugh over the phone from 2,707.9 miles away.
It's a little strange, knowing that there is someone on the other side of the country whom you only speak to through phone calls and text messages, and yet consider as close as a sister. And though this letter could never fully tell you how blessed I feel to have you in my life each and every day, I hope it is enough to show you how much your friendship means to me.
First and foremost, thank you for always being there for me whenever I need you. Be it 12 a.m. my time (7 p.m. your time), when I call you to ask for advice about anything and everything, or a moment of "OMG, S.O.S. May day, May day -- I'm freaking out over here!" you never fail to come to my rescue. Thank you for imparting your endless wisdom to me, and for just listening to my ramblings, be they about school, friends, family, or the fact that the global temperatures are steadily rising and I'm worried that my children may never get to see a penguin.
Thank you for always making me smile and laugh with your endless jokes and dorkiness. I can never be embarrassed around you, no matter how silly we're being or how crazy our conversations are. You never fail to cheer me up when I'm feeling down, and I couldn't imagine a single day without your sunshine in it.
Thank you for being such a magnificent role model in our community, for being someone that not only I, but everyone can look up to. You work so incredibly hard in everything that you do, no matter what it may be, and yet I've never once heard you complain about it. There is always a smile on your face, even in the most stressful of times, and I admire your diligence and dedication more than I can say. One day, you are going to be an amazing doctor, and the world is going to be lucky to have someone as passionate as you are making a difference in it.
But above all, thank you for being my best friend. You've filled each of my days with so many smiles and so much laughter, so many stories and so much fun! You always motivate me to be the best version of myself that I can be, and I cannot wait until the moment that I actually do get to meet you. But until then, I hope that this letter has showed you how happy I am to have you in my life as a best friend. Because, Nellie, there is no one else in the world like you.
Love,
Dyala
