A Letter To The Bae Who Doesn't Know He's The Bae

Hello my love,

It's me again. Although our recent interactions have increased significantly, you still don't understand my love for you. Let me begin by saying you looked great in your aunt's post on Facebook from Easter. I'm talking about Auntie Rose, not Auntie Kathy. Also, please let your sister know I loved her shoes. You really should wear the lavender color more often, it looks great with your skin tone. If we were actually a couple, I would be sure to dress you in colors that look great on you.

I noticed you got the cobb salad the other day in the cafe. I flashed you a smile and you waved. Are you getting the salad because you are watching the waistline? Let me say, there is no reason to be doing that. According to my Facebook creeping, you really have slimmed down since 2012.

We spoke the other day. In the library. Do you remember? I was in the line to print and so were you. You asked, "Are you all set?" I think you were talking about being done with the printer but, Bae, I will only be all set once we are together. But, true to form, I kept it casual and just said, "I'm all yours!" I clearly meant to say "It's all yours!" but calm, cool and collected isn't exactly my style. Did you catch it?

I noticed you were printing your four-year plan. That's great. I admire a man with direction. And according to my research, we have a great business program. I am not a business major, but maybe we will be lucky enough to have classes together at some point. We could pass notes and do fun things. Maybe by then, you will know you are the ultimate bae.

But until then, we will continue to glance at one another, flash a smile and wave while not under the influence of liquid confidence. Those Saturday nights we see one another in a hot, sticky party that smells worse than most gyms will be the memories I hold true in my heart. I will continue to make the biggest production ever making small talk about potatoes just to ensure we have something to discuss. I spend my days hoping that one day, our true love can be reconciled.

Ready when you are,

Bae

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
