Dear high school seniors,

Well, this is it. This is the last few months of childhood, and I know how scary that sounds. There are some of you that cannot wait to leave, and then there are some that cannot fathom leaving.
Either way, I get it. Life is changing and it is so scary and so exciting. Some of us know what we will be doing this fall, and others are not sure. If you are set on a path, congratulations on being ready for this next chapter of your life, and I am sure it is going to be great. If you aren't sure what you're doing, it's okay. Take a deep breath, everything will be figured out, so don't stress if you haven't committed to a college or don't have a job lined up. Everything will manage to come together in time.

I want to remind everyone of one thing: this part of your life is coming to an end, and it is so important that you make the most of the time left. I'm sure that I sound like you have something to mourn, and in a way you do. Now is the time to enjoy life, because from here on out it is not going to be easy. I had a teacher really remind us that beyond this point, life is hard and it is not anything like high school. That might seem like a good thing to some, but remember that means taking full responsibility for all actions, and always being held accountable.

After this, it is college, jobs, moving, marriages, kids, and a life, like a real life. It is going to be a life where you can't go running to your parents to fix a problem, I mean you could but eventually you're going to have to learn to solve problems on your own. I'm not trying to scare people, I am just reminding everyone that it is the end of an era.

Now, I am also not saying that life is going to suck beyond this point. Some people say high school is the best four years of you're life, some say that it is college, and some say it is a point beyond that. I always like to think that the best is yet to come. Everything is going to be different and new, but it is no longer going to be a life that is controlled by parents, teachers, etc. We are going to be able to live our lives for ourselves, the way that we choose to do so, so get excited.

In this time where we so close to the end, but not yet free, do not lose sight of what is important. There are still deadlines to reach and a GPA to maintain. You cannot give up, remember that colleges are still watching; but also remember that you deserve to have fun. If you have been the kid with their nose stuck in a book, let loose for a little bit. Stay up late hanging out with friends, attend all the school events, take a 'sick day' every now and again. Just love this time, because there will never be a chance to have it again.

Sincerely,

A high school senior.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
