A Letter To My Future Self, Once The School Year's Over

Dear Mark,

I want to congratulate you on completing your first year in college. I hope the second semester was just as great as the first and you made even more friends than before. I hope you didn't let your grades dip, that GPA is gonna matter. As you gear up for summer truly enjoy the beach back home. It's not the warmest right now and I wish I'd never taken the heat for granted. I also hope your first college spring break was everything you were hoping.

Somethings I'd like for you to try this summer is surfing, reading, and I'd like for you to go sky diving. I know these ideas have lingered in your mind for a while now and I think this summer is the perfect opportunity to put those in fruition. Take a surfing class, read an inspirational book, and finally fly as you've always been wanting to. You won't regret it, trust me.

In addition to enjoying spring break, I hope there's been an array of new music and movies you've enjoyed. Has Childish Gambino finally dropped his album? Have you seen the new Avengers movie? How many times have you rewatched the office now? I'm hoping one of our favorites dropped an album by now. Or at least a feature. I hope you finally pulled the trigger on going to Hang Out, I'm sure it was a great experience.

Also, did the Saints win the Super Bowl? Did Drew Brees win MVP at least? I know if one of those two happened your semester has been pretty good. Has James Harden kept up his historic pace? He dropped 57 points last night, I'm hoping he topped that number. Who's looking like the favorite to win the championship? My money is on Golden State. I wonder who Antonio Brown got traded to. I bet it was the 49ers, just a guess.

Finally, Mark, I'd like to say, don't take anything for granted. The first semester blew by and I can only imagine how fast the second one went by. Your years in college are going to be a blast, but they're also going to fly by. Enjoy the parties, the hangouts, and even the classes. Football season is almost back so take every game for what it is. Geaux Tigers! Live by that next year, have some school spirit, and find the joy in everything.

I got big plans, and so do you, we got this.

Sincerely,

Past Mark

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
