A Letter To My Friend

I couldn't have done it without you.

A Letter To My Friend
Aubreigh Ulicki

Throughout life, we meet a plethora of people who are each different in their own way. Similarities exist, but each of these people makes an impact on our life and how we handle different situations. Relationships are built and if you’re lucky enough, many of these relationships turn into friendships.

I have been blessed with many friends whom I’ve gained through childhood, high school, college and my career. One of these stages of my life stands out in particular, and I am forever grateful to my best friend from college…for a few things:

For choosing the same major.

Even though we both had no idea what we wanted to do the rest of our lives, that indecision led us to the same place.

For introducing yourself in class.

Not many people can say they met their best friend in class. I guess we have our professor to thank too, for the non-traditional lesson plan he had in store for us that day. From that day, our weekly Tuesday walk to class let us get to know each other more and more…and I’m extremely appreciative for that.

For talking me into going out on the weekend.

Whether it was heading to the bars on Friday night or a 90s party on Saturday, you always convinced me to go out and have a good time. Rain, shine, 70 degrees or 10…you were walking right by my side (before Uber existed).

For doing crafts instead of homework with me.

Sure, we probably should have been working on group projects or studying for next week’s exam…but how many laughs did we get from all of those Pinterest fails?

For the study dates.

It sounds like we were terrible students at this point – but thank you for the study dates too. We always buckled down when we needed to, and we made it through a few years later.

For putting up with me as a roommate.

The last two years of college were a couple of the best. From moving in and decorating, to staying in for movie nights, to getting ready on the weekends...we have too many memories to count. Within those two years, you made me like Beyonce, I made you like country, and we both listened to, “Always Be My Baby” too many times in a row.

For helping me through a difficult transition.

Even when it wasn’t verbal, we both knew when we needed space, advice, or a little piece of home. College can be hard to get used to. Most days you love it, and others you wonder if you’re doing anything right. You helped me through every part of it – the good days, the bad days, and even those in between.

For continuing to support me.

Whether it’s a drive to visit, a quick text to say hello, a funny SnapChat, or a FaceTime to see my new place…you’re always checking in. It’s difficult adjusting to new cities, new schools, and a new group of people. Knowing I have a best friend to go to at any time is such a comfort.

The list could go on and on; these are just a few of the things I’m most thankful for. To my best friend from college: I couldn’t have done it without you, I’m so lucky to have you in my life.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
