Just keep fighting, you will make it. I promise.

A Letter To My Younger Self

Me,

Hey! It’s you, from the future. Well don't panic or anything. I’m not here to tell you there was an alien invasion and the world is going to end, or even that you’ll be dead due to a horrific accident. I’m actually here to tell you to complete opposite.

You seem a little confused, and I understand but let me tell you why you shouldn’t be. Things right now aren’t the best. You are alone. You feel this empty pit in your stomach and you want to fill it but you don’t seem to have to energy or desire to fix it. You stay quiet. You were always so loud and outgoing, but lately you’ve been confined to the four walls of your room hoping for a saving grace to turn things around. You think you’ve tried everything to be happy. So what, maybe yoga or drawing or reading wasn’t your perfect hobby. Now please take a deep breath, because the best has yet to come.

You will struggle. You will have a hard time finding who you are. You will try every style from preppy to totally emo, but don’t worry you’ll find your balance. You will cry. You will shed tears over the people you thought were the closest to you, but you will soon realize they don’t weep for you. You will experience loss. You will lose the person who was once your best friend, but you will have her memory with you for every day to follow. You will love. Not some stereotypical, epic love story where you find your prince charming, but you will love like you have never loved before. You will wait for that love. You will wait for a long time, but in the end you will have him as yours. You will experience heart break. Your bones will feel like dust and your heart will weigh 60lbs in your chest. You will not eat for a few weeks, and you will regret and question everything you ever did. You will later realize you did nothing wrong. Don’t stress about him, he will be back.

Most importantly, you will be happy. I know you don’t believe me, but just hear me out. You think there is not happiness for you and there is no where left for you to turn. Fight it. Fight those demons in your head, and fight them good, because they are strong but you are stronger. You will find some of best people from a place you would least expect it. You will go to college and meet even more people who love you for who you are. You will branch out and join a sorority. I know, weird right? Here you will find girls who have all seen hell and back in their own way, and are now your family. More importantly, your BIG will be like no other. She will stand by you and help you when you are down, and then stay up with you til 3am goofing off around campus for no reason. Cherish these moments, you only have four years here.

This is where you are now. You are writing published work. You have amazing friends who help you through anything. You have a bestfriend who either across the country or around the block, will be there for you no matter what. And Christina I promise you, you have happiness, just keep fighting.

Love Always,

Me.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
