This past week I had to go to the adult dentist for the first time... all by myself. It was an ordeal, but it inspired me to write this article of gratitude. All I have to say is: thank you, Mom and Dad, for always going to the dentist with me.
Thank you for all of the small and simple things like cleaning my room for when I come home. For changing my headlight. For calling me and texting me daily to check in on me. For never missing a softball game. For doing my laundry. For making my lunch every day for 13 years. For spoiling me.
But even more importantly thank you for all of the big things you guys have done and continue to do for me. Thank you for letting me make my own decisions and trusting me. For giving up so much for me to have and do the things I do. For teaching me I can do ANYTHING. For teaching me to be independent. For teaching me how to love others through y'all's unconditional love for me. For making me strong. For supporting me in everything I do.
For teaching me it's not about what you have but who you have. For teaching me to give. For setting the best examples possible. For loving the Lord and teaching me to trust in Him. For giving me the best advice.
Countless times, I have seen people around me struggle and be abandoned by their parents or just simply not have a relationship with their parents beyond them being their biological parents.
You two have surpassed every expectation of being a Mom and Dad.
Y'all have been my best friends, my teachers, my caregivers, my problem solvers and my biggest fans. Thank y'all for having open minds.
For letting me teach y'all every new thing I learn. For always being on my side. For wanting the absolute best for me. For being selfless. For working so so so hard.
I know that you guys are so proud of me. Y'all have never failed to show me that. But I am even more proud of you two. You both raised me when y'all were still growing up yourselves.
You have given Heston and me the best lives possible. Y'all have both worked so hard to get the job positions you have now. In figuring out paying for college, buying your children cars, taking us on trips, healing our illnesses and conquering any other challenge that has ever come your way, you have done it.
I am proud to call you my parents and so grateful.
