A Letter To Our New Members
Haley Walker

To all of our beautiful new members, welcome to the best experience of your life. To most new members, you think that you have just joined a sorority, an organization, or a way to meet friends. But little do you know you’ve joined something much, much bigger than just that.

When first joining a sorority I didn’t know what to expect. All of the meetings, social events, and volunteer work seemed like a lot to commit to at the time. The thought of being around dozens of girls I didn’t know excited me but was nerve wrecking all at the same time. Now looking back on my first week of joining a sorority, I realized how all of my nervous thoughts were a waste of my time. Because what I have gained from a sorority, is far more than I could have ever imagined.

Gaining over 100 new sisters means endless support, endless pillow talks, and endless late night food runs. Having someone there for me no matter the situation is honestly one of the greatest gifts in life. It may seem intimidating at first, but how close you become to your sisters is unreal and happens so fast that I now look back and don’t even remember how I became so close with so many girls in such a short time. A second family and a home away from home.

Volunteer as much as you can, apply for an exec position, go out and have fun, meet new people, find study buddies, and cherish every second of it. Four years of college goes by faster than you can imagine, so be confident and take advantage of everything while you can.

At the same time, just because you are in Greek life doesn’t mean you can’t experience things outside of that. Some of my best friends are either not in Greek life, or they are in different houses. Being a part of Greek life doesn’t hold you back from anything. Trust me.

If recruitment, bid day, and getting to meet dozens of new girls seemed a bit overwhelming, don’t worry, the most hectic part is over. You can look forward to making best friends, filling your calendar with exciting events, and the best memories of your life. I know you will love everything about this sorority as much as I do and I can’t wait to see what great things are in store for you.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

202
Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
