An Open Letter To My Older Sister

I haven't always appreciated having a sibling, but I don't know what I'd do without my sister.

Dear Sis,

I know you think that I hate you most of the time, or that I'm jealous of you. But honestly, I think you're great. Thank you for always taking the blame or convincing our parents to let me go out with that boy who was "no good." Thank you for convincing me of my worth and that no matter what happens, I'm good enough.

We've been through a lot of crazy times but still, I'm your number one fan. Every single time you messed up and I got mad, I still loved you through it. I loved you through it because I knew soon enough, I'd do the same. Thank you for letting me learn through your experiences and showing me what life is about. Thank you for bringing diversity into my life and for showing me the truth about love.

I know sometimes you think mom and dad favor one of us over the other--or that I'm some golden child-- but truly, I learned from you. You've always tried your best and tried to set an example of what is expected-- even when you didn't realize it. I remember you cheering me on at soccer games and giving me flowers after dance recitals. I remember you being there for me even when that was the last thing you wanted to do. Thank you for never giving up on me and encouraging me to go for it all and not give up on my dreams.

Thank you most of all, for being my sister. I know I'm a pain... but it is part of my job. I will always look up to you and you will always be the best sister in the world.

I love you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
