An Open Letter To My Soulmate's Mom

Thank you so much for raising such an amazing man.

An Open Letter To My Soulmate's Mom

I did not know I needed someone so much in my life until I met your son. Having someone like him be a part of my days has been the best blessing in my life. I truly cannot thank you enough for creating and raising such a wonderful human being, but I am going to try.

First of all, thank you for teaching him how to listen and understand. Your son never makes me feel as though I am not attention-worthy. He always listens to my stupid jokes, rants, emotional stories, and random thoughts with sincerity and a genuine interest for every single word I have to say. He understands when I need him to be serious and when I need someone to support me and be the shoulder to cry on. He is one of the only people who can make me smile from ear to ear when I am down. He is the most compassionate and caring person I have had the privilege to meet.

Second, thank you for teaching him how to respect me. Your son is the kindest-hearted human being. He never fails to make me feel wanted and makes sure to put my feelings in front of his own. Although your son cannot read my mind all the time like I want him to, he tries his hardest to know how I am feeling. He values my opinions and beliefs and does not devalue or try to prove wrong the things he does not agree on.

Third, thank you for teaching him how to love. Thank you for being a wonderful woman and role model for him to look up to so he knows how to treat other people. Thank you for creating everything about him from the way he laughs and smiles to the way he talks and breathes. Thank you for making him have the biggest heart in the entire world. Thank you for teaching him to be apologetic and relaxed. Thank you for absolutely creating the most perfect human being for me in the entire world. I have no clue what I would do without your son in my life. Thank you for being such an influential figure in his life and thank you for keeping him safe all his life.

Fourth, thank you for letting me into your son's life with acceptance and love. Thank you for being nice to me and displaying all of those same qualities whenever I am around you. Although you probably do not realize it, I appreciate all of the small things you do and say when I am around. You always make me feel welcome and comforted and have made some of the best food I have ever eaten.

Fifth, thank you for raising the most amazing person I have ever met. He is the best thing to have happened to me. He has taught me a new purpose for my life and has made me find meaning within every single day he has been in my life. I never knew I needed your son as much as I did but now that he is in my life I never want to lose him. He has changed my entire world. From the moment I met him, I was the most "me" I have ever been. I have never felt so comfortable with someone in my entire life. I am so completely entranced and in awe of how wonderful your son is every day. I am so in love with your son it is insane and I just wanted to thank you for how much you have done for him to make him into the person whom I want to build a future with.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
