An Open Letter To My Sorority Sisters

Without even being a member of the organization, I already felt like a sister.

Thank you for being you, and thank you for being us. I could not even imagine a college experience without you all by my side. College is tough at times, but it is all my sisters that bring me back to my feet to make all the bad times into good memories. From sleeptalking conversations when I just can't seem to fall asleep, to the venting sessions when I just need to get it all out. You all are there.

Getting more involved in the chapter has shown me what it truly means to be a part of a sisterhood of women that care. If there is any need for help a sister is right there. If there is anything that I need to just get out and talk about, there is a sister with a listening ear.

I personally never saw myself being a member of a sorority when I first came to college. It was just something that I felt that I didn't need to do. However, after a few rough weeks at the beginning of my college career, a person came into my life. In the beginning, she was a kind friend that helped me in a class and someone to ask random questions to. Further into the semester, I found that she was an individual that I wish to become like. How she carried herself in her everyday life was how I wanted to exemplify my life as. After many random texts and invites over to the house to study, I learned that there were more individuals like her. Without even being a member of the organization, I already felt like a sister. When I was invited to the house for a dinner to get to know more sisters, I knew this was where I was meant to be.

I could never be more thankful for the women that are in my life today. They are the ones that push me to become a better me and help me when I'm at my low points. They are the ones I cry with, talk with, and dance with. They make the bad times good and the good times unforgettable.

Everyone in the house brings something different to our chapter and I could not be more thankful for that. We are all able to represent ourselves without changing to fit in. Yet we are able to represent one name together. The bonds that we share can never be broken no matter the circumstance. I am so blessed to be around women that truly care about me and will help me through every part of my life. What we are building now will only stay and become stronger in the future.

First you become a part of it, then it becomes a part of you.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
