A Letter To My Sisters As The School Year Ends

The separation anxiety will be real.

A Letter To My Sisters As The School Year Ends
Kamila Marek

As the school year comes to an end, we start to hit this depressing point in the semester. Not only is the school work piling up and you have to face packing up your entire dorm room, you also have to face the fact that you can't run down the hall and knock on your pledge sister's door. Even more depressing (sorry, guys) is the fact that graduation is around the corner, and that means that for some people, they won't be coming back in the fall. If you're really unlucky, like me, one of those people is your Big, who thinks it's totally fine to just leave me here.

Luckily, I go to a small state school, so the bulk of my sisters are no more than an hour's drive away. Unlike other schools, where people have their Bigs live states away from them, mine is a half hour away with traffic. However, it sucks knowing that for the next three months, you guys won't be close to me. I can't run across campus for wine nights or pre-games with you crazy people. We won't have mixers or sisterhoods where we can bond over stupid jokes and funny stories. There will be no chapter where we can celebrate our accomplishments and work through our rough patches. I can't walk into the dining hall and find a table full of you to pay attention to me. Life without you guys by my side on the daily is not my ideal situation, but thank God it's only temporary.

But while we spend this summer apart, I look forward to what's going to happen. I can't wait for the excitement that will fill me when we meet up at a concert or on the beach. I look forward to texting you guys daily about my joke of a life or the latest gossip. I'm pumped to start getting messages in August about sisterhoods and events we already have to look forward to when we move back in.

We all need a well-deserved break, I'll admit it. I'm lucky to know that we won't stop talking this summer. Our group chats are going to be going off constantly, and I don't hate it. In the fall, we'll pick back up right where we left off. This year has been great, and I am so happy I got to experience it with each of you.

I want you guys to know that I am so grateful for the friendship and love you guys have given me. If I really bought my friends when I joined the sorority, it was worth every penny. You guys are the most beautiful humans I have come to know, and while summer is going to be lit, seeing all your faces again in the fall is what I'm really looking forward to. Here's to a great summer, and here's to the much anticipated Fall 2016 semester.

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
