A Letter To My Sister Entering Senior Year

Dear sister,

Wow. Senior year already? I cannot believe it. It seems like just yesterday we were outside in our backyard with the neighborhood kids practicing our dance routine to "We're all in this together" from High School Musical. *Sigh*.

Anyways, enough of the cliche sentimentals (for now).

Senior year is a year like no other. Not only is it full of pressure about your future but there is also plenty of room for mixed emotions as well. So here I am, writing you a letter of things I believe would be helpful.

1. Senioritis is very, verrryyy real.

It'll creep up on you slowly at first. It will start off simple and seemingly harmless. You will, think to your self "Oh, I can wait until tonight to finish that assignment." But then it will slowly but surely take over and before you know it, you will be doing school work five minutes before it is due. You have been warned.

2. The college application process can be tedious.

You will have to juggle all the due dates around to get everything in on time but it will feel great when you are all done and applied!

3. Waiting to hear back from colleges is a form of an evil torture.

The application process may seem like the toughest part of senior year but it is not. Waiting to hear back is insanely difficult especially when you are impatient (which you and I both are) but once you receive that big envelope from the first college to get back to you, it could even be your safety school, that feeling of relief is overwhelming. Your anxiety about your future roll off you shoulders. You will jump for joy and scream because at least now you know you are going somewhere!

4. Yes, classes do still matter (to some degree)

Sadly, even after being accepted into schools and you know where you are going, you still have to get decent grades. It will be tough because, as previously stated, senioritis. Need I say more?

5. See your high school friends whenever you can!

Set time aside to still hang out with your friends. Walk with them to classes, go on a lunch date, have a sleepover. Do Something! This is extremely important because before you know it, you will most likely be hours apart and won't have as much time for each other.

6. Cherish every moment (the little ones too).

This may seem cheesey, let's face it... this IS cheesey, but this is the truth. The class that you have been with since kindergarten on will all be going their separate ways. Just make sure you appreciate everyone and all the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I hope you found this helpful. I know you have a bright future ahead of you and that your senior year will be filled with laughs and memories!

Sincerely,

Your older sister who's been through this already ;)

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
