A Letter to my Roommate

A Letter to my Roommate

As freshman year is winding down and summer is so close we can just taste it, it's easy to forget some of the important aspects of your year. You're so focused on the plans you need to make to earn some major cash in the summer or thinking about how you are going to decorate your house next year. So, let's just take a minute and send a little shout-out to someone who has seen your best, your worst and your most embarrassing self.

Your roommate.

The year started out with such excitement as you waited to see what was in store for the next 12 months. Whether you went random or knew the girl you were rooming with, you braced yourself for the best and the worst. To readers who had bad luck going random, I am deeply sorry. Things will get better next year. But to the readers whose luck was on fleek, I'm sure you get where I am coming from in this letter of thanks.

Roomie,

Thank you for putting up with me during this very crazy year. We both had no idea what to expect when coming to university. Safe to say, we were surprised at some situations that presented themselves to us. But no matter what happened, I knew you were there to help me out regardless of the situation.

You listened to my stories of absurd mistakes made throughout the week (tripping up stairs in front of everyone in Bracken) and the stories of my past years in high school. When girls were being the biggest bishes, you helped me forget the stupidity and move on to work on homework.

When stress piled up, you let me cry. You didn't mind if I played some ghetto music or Christian dance tunes. You gave me advice that I can put into my life for a very long while. And since guys are usually clueless and stupid, you gave me answers to make sure I was putting myself first instead of letting a douche bag ruin my week.

Safe to say too, you've been my motivator to get sh*t done and succeed in what I do.

I'm sorry for being really difficult more times than I should have been and being really annoying when I couldn't get over a stupid guy...

Just know that my freshman year wouldn't have been the same without you as my roommate. Our little cell that is our home away from home will always hold a special place in my heart. We've laughed, cried, danced, talked, and most importantly, learned lessons to help us grow.

And while we may living in separate places next year, I just want to thank you so much for everything you've done for me.

So here's a shout-out to you. roomie! Keep being as flawless as ever.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
