A Letter To My Past And Future Self

To My Past Self,

Through the extreme lows and extreme highs of your life, I commend you for coming out of such situations level-headed. I am also proud of you for sharing the obstacles you have faced with others in order to help them grow as you have.

Thank you for pushing on when you didn’t think you could do it anymore. It makes me so happy to look back on someone who refused to get help and let her sadness build up inside of her, to seeing someone who found help and has grown so much because of it. I also commend you for continuing to encourage others to do the same.

I am proud of you for never forgetting the past. For keeping the good and important things with you in your head and heart, while learning from the bad situations and mistakes you’ve made in order to make you a better person.

Just know that you are worth it and always have been. The progress you have made is truly incredible. You have grown so much over the past 18 years and I cannot wait to see all you are capable of.

To My Future Self,

I hope that you are striving to achieve my current goals and your new ones. I hope that you are happy and making the most out of each and every day because I believe in you and know that you are capable of doing amazing things.

I cannot wait to see where the world takes you. I hope that you are open to new experiences and take risks, that you do not take no for an answer, and that you strive to be the best possible version of yourself.

I hope you are constantly surrounding yourself with people you love and that love you back and that you learn from the mistakes you make and turn them into lessons.

I hope that you are taking care of your physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being. I know that you can work hard while also having loads of fun.

I hope you stand up for yourself and never let people treat you in a way less than you deserve. I want you to always remember that you are good enough, so don’t you ever forget it.

I know that you will continue to push yourself to make a difference and I cannot wait to be a part of that journey.

I cannot wait to see all that is to come for you and the people around you. Be confident, be fearless, work hard, and have fun because the world is at your fingertips.

Love,

Your Present Self

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
