Dear Mom & Dad,

Hey guys! College is going well. I'm finding my groove and figuring out how to be an adult. Kinda. I do my own laundry (but I call you when I don't know what I can put in with what) and wash my dishes (sometimes, they're starting to pile up, don't yell at me). I am loving my classes and learning a lot like Aristotle's views on ethics and politics and how to conjugate Latin verbs. Exciting I know. But there's an even bigger lesson that I have learned at college and it has to do with you guys. I have learned how much you mean to me and how much I appreciate you.

Being on my own is fun, don't get me wrong, I can drink out of the gallon of milk and not get yelled at, but it has also made me realize how much I miss you guys. Being on my own has showed me how much you actually did for me. It made me realize how lucky I am to have parents as amazing as you.

I know in high school I was not as appreciative as I should have been, but that's the funny thing about college you learn to appreciate things. Especially when those things aren't there. Distance really does make the heart grow fonder. I miss you both oh so much. I think you know that though based on the amount of times I call and text you in one day.

Thank you for being the amazing people that you are. I am so grateful that you raised me to be able to handle being on my own. It is thanks to you guys that I am succeeding. There is no doubt about that. I love you both so much and can't wait to see you soon.

Love,

Your little girl

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
