An Open Letter To My Siblings

Siblings: Children of the same parents, each of whom is perfectly normal until they get together.

An Open Letter To My Siblings
Kayleigh Heckel

When I was a little kid, I hated having 4 siblings. There was ALWAYS someone in the bathroom when I needed to go, and it seemed that I could never have a conversation without getting interrupted 5 different times. The older I get, the more I've learned to appreciate each and every one of you. In case I don’t tell you all enough (which I’m sure I don’t), I am truly thankful for you.

Sean: The first born. As weird as this seems, I can’t really recall a time where you were ever mean to me. You’ve always been calm, cool, and collected. Thank you for almost always being my ride to work when I didn’t drive and never complaining about it. Thank you for all of the talks we share, and the wisdom you give me.

Rhiannon: My only sister. The biggest pain in my ass growing up...just kidding. I would have gone insane if I was the only girl, that’s for sure. Thank you for always plucking my Chewbacca/bigfoot eyebrows even when you didn’t want to. Thank you for all the guy advice, and more importantly, giving me life aspirations that hopefully I can achieve as well.

Kyle: The middle child. The sibling closest to my age. Thank you for watching shows with me, and letting me bug you all the time. I appreciate you always being there for me when I needed help with my homework. I’m sure I’ll still need that smart brain of yours, so don’t go too far. Thank you for having the same amount of disgust (if not more) for Tomi Lahren. I wouldn’t want to share it with anyone else.

Cody: The baby. You stole my spot of being the baby, but that’s okay, I forgive you. Thank you for FINALLY giving me a chance to have a younger sibling, and giving me someone to boss around. I’m only kidding. Thank you for showing me how to play Clash Royale which I’m now obsessed with. Thank you for showing me how to play Roblox even though I suck at it and die 15 seconds into the game each time. Even though you may have been an “accident” for mom and dad, you were on purpose for the rest of us.

To all of you, I wouldn’t be half the person I am today if it wasn’t for you guys. I’m so thankful for our sense of humor. I would be so lost without you all. Thank you for being the people I can always be weird around, and quote movies with, and laugh with until I cry. Lastly, thank you for being my rock when dad died. We all took it hard, and I’m so lucky to have 4 siblings to lean on. I love you all so much.

Always and Forever with Love, Kayleigh Michelle.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
