An Open Letter To My Not So Little Brother

To the best male in my life even if you're a pain in the butt

An Open Letter To My Not So Little Brother

Dear younger brother,

I'm sure your life would've been boring if it didn't start off with my friends and I making you our real life Barbie doll. The olden days consisted of painted nails, wigs, dresses, and heels you couldn't fit into. You quickly blossomed into your own little person... "Deez nuts" jokes and all. A 7 year age difference is no obstacle for us but I think it goes without question that I have the right to act like a second mom.

Don't let family problems ruin what you want in life. Always keep going and striving for what you want. You can do anything you put your mind to pumpkin! If you still want to be a video game designer when you're my age, you're going to be the best one there is! I believe in you and your dreams. If there's a lot going on around the house, keep in mind that your family supports your decisions... some of us just get stressed from time to time.

You can call me for anything no matter what time it is or how far I am from you. I never want you to feel alone.

Please keep in contact with me. I want to be like mom and have phone calls with my siblings in the morning before we start our day. Even if it's just to say hey, I want to hear from you.

Be nice to mom. As you get older, she's getting older too. It took me 18 years to realize how much hell I put her through over nothing. In a couple years, whenever she tells you no to going out or that you shouldn't hang out with a certain someone... please obey her. She only wants the best for you and chances are, she's absolutely right about what she's saying.

Be yourself! I pray the world shows you nothing but kindness. However, sometimes it doesn't work out that way. It's your life and I never want you to change for anyone, yet alone immature little kids at your school. Sometimes people are going to have different opinions and perspectives on things and that's okay!

Always remain kind. You have the biggest heart. I admire the way you treat others even if they don't treat you the same way back. Thank you for all the times you've spent your own money on buying me nicknacks for no reason at all. I'm a very proud big sister all the time, but especially at these times.

I wish I could pack you in a suitcase and let you live with me 5 hours away. You are my rock, Colin. Please understand that when I blow up your phone, it's only because I miss seeing you daily. As much as I wish I could be there to share these times with you, I look forward to hearing about your life events whenever I see you next. Coming home is ten times more exciting now. I'll take any opportunity I can get to squeeze on your twin size bed and smother you with kisses!

I hope you continue to live out your innocence by dancing like no one is watching and singing at the top of your lungs in the car. I'm proud of the little man you're becoming, even if I don't tell you enough. Life seriously wouldn't be the same without you. I wouldn't want it anyway else. (I'm sure mom is showing this to you while you roll your eyes).

Love you always,

Your Sissy

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
