I know you can't read right now and it will be a while before you are able to read this, but one day, you'll both be able to. If you don't read it eventually, that's OK because I will just tell you this one day anyways.
As you're aunt, I think it's necessary to write you both this letter, and it's going to be a very cliche letter. You know, a letter to your future selves and such. So, stop watching Doc McStuffins (by the time you read this, you probably won't watch that anymore) and listen carefully.
In about 10 years, you'll look at all of the pictures I took of you both while you were this little, and you'll wonder if it was even possible for you to be that small. It will be unbelievable that you both spent the first few years of your life as tiny, carefree humans and you might not even remember most of it.
But I will. I will always remember when you were this young. I'll remember when both of you were born and when I could hold you for the first time. I'll remember thinking how crazy it was that I was an aunt, and I'll remember not being at home when one of you was born. And how sad I was because of that. I was so happy when I could finally come home and see your precious face in person.
You may forget, but while I'm writing this I am away from home. I feel like I'm missing some important times in both of your lives. All I have is pictures that your parents send me, and every time I receive one, I miss you both more and more.
While I'm away and while I think about how I feel like I'm missing out, I can't help, but also think about all of the years to come. Like when you start school, lose your first tooth and a lot of other firsts that you will experience. So, since I'm your cool aunt that will always let you have candy, I will give you a couple of tips for the future. Just some things I've learned throughout the years that may be useful to you. Your parents will tell you the same things, but they can just show you this when you won't listen to them the first time.
1. When you start school, you'll keep hearing that boys have cooties and I am here to tell you...that is completely true. Boys have cooties.
2. Whatever crazy fashion trend is popular when you're in the seventh grade, will probably change 12 times before you even start high school.
3. Your "first love" may not be your first love. If you experience a break up as a teenager, it's not the end of the world even though it may feel like it. I promise, it will be OK. Plus, your cool aunt with all the candy (me) will make them cry.
4. Every day, look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are beautiful because you are.
5. Listen to your parents because they really do know what they're talking about.
6. I will always have your back. Being your aunt is one of the best things that has happened to me, and you can always come to me to talk about anything. I will always support you through any dream that you may have. I will always be a shoulder you can cry on. I will always have candy in my purse.
I love you both so much.
Your Cool Aunt
