An Open Letter To My Nephew

You were born a month ago, and I already can't imagine life without you.

An Open Letter To My Nephew

First off, let me say that you are loved more than you know. From the moment I received the call letting me know that you were coming into this big crazy world, I knew you would be something special. Driving two hours in the middle of the night was worth every second once I laid eyes on your chubby little face and dark brown hair. You stole a piece of my heart as soon as you opened your precious little eyes to look at me. I know that I am not your mom, and that I never will be but I get to be the next best thing in your life: your aunt.

I promise that as you grow older, I'll always be right there whenever you need me, and even when you don't. I promise to take an abundant amount of photos of you, especially when you start school. I promise to read you books, and help you with homework. I promise to support you in whatever you decide to participate in, whether that be swim team, little league, or science fairs. I promise to be someone you can talk to when things get hard. I promise to be a cool aunt who will embarrass you in front of your friends, if necessary. I promise to be fun and take your side when your parents are bugging you to clean your room. I promise to spoil you rotten and love you as if you were my own.

This past month with you as flown by, making me realize that time is precious and you will be grown before I know. But please try not to grow up too fast. The world is not ready for everything you have to offer, which I know will be nothing short of greatness. I can also guarantee you that I am not ready to let you grow up just yet, so lets take this first year slow, let me hold you for as long as possible, and eventually you can start crawling after that.

Love,

Your Favorite Aunt

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
