Dear mom,
I’m taking accounting right now and it's kicking my butt. I always knew you were smart, but I don’t think I ever appreciated how smart you are until now. You graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in accounting. You passed the CPA exams (which only have a 50% pass rate) while you were raising 2 kids and a bevy of animals. You’re such a star. Now you’re doing incredible work at an accounting firm you love.
It’s tax season right now. I know you’re super busy so I figured I would tell the whole internet how proud I am of you instead of calling you like a normal person. This tax season you will work 60 hour work weeks and give up so many fun opportunities to ensure that your clients are taken care of. You will stress about how fast you are working compared to your peers and you will have to spend way too much time on hold with the IRS. You will get tired, you will get frustrated, and you will be stressed 25/8.
I’ve seen you go through tax season in the past and I know you’re doing great work. I also know that you’re probably thinking you aren’t doing enough. I’m here to tell you that this is false. You work hard to make sure every single one of your clients is getting your best work even when you’ve already been at work for 12 hours that day. Your best work is absolutely incredible. You have so much knowledge and so much passion for your work and it shows.
Watching you on your journey in your career has taught me so much about what it means to be a good person. You make time for your family even when you’re so stressed you can’t see straight. You don’t give up when faced with a challenge, but you’re also not afraid to ask questions when you don’t know something. You do your best to mentor your colleagues who have less experience than you. You know the value of delegating and you’re working hard to learn how to do it. You are kind in a world that is not always kind to you.
What I’m trying to say is that you’re my hero. In this season of stress and frustration I want to remind you of that. Every time you feel like you are letting us down please stop yourself immediately. You’ve got a whole crowd of cheerleaders on your side and we all want to see you succeed. We love you and we understand that work is taking your time right now. You’re amazing mom and I’m so blessed to be able to call you my mother.
All my love,
Megan
