A Letter To My Best Friend, My Mom
Brianna Columbo
"A mother is what any girl needs in her life"

Dear Mom,

I want to start this letter off by saying 'thank you.' Thank you for giving me this wonderful life. You are not only my mother, but my best friend who I'm so lucky to always have by my side during the good and bad times, in sickness and in health. I really don't know where I would be in life without you. You have been my support system from day one. You have made me the person I am today. The number of 'thank you' I have for you are endless, but the bottom line is, thank you for all the sacrifices you have made in your life for me, especially during all my hospital stays month after month.

Out of all the words in the world I feel that these few words describe you the most: indestructible, appreciated, compassionate, and most of all beautiful.

With all the battles our family has been hit with, that include the many hospital stays with me, you have never given up no matter what. Even during the toughest times, like now while Dad is in the hospital and when I am upset and crying, you are always there to find the positive side in every situation. You are the glue to our family and the one who keeps us together even when we feel our whole world is falling apart. You are still standing, you never let anything get the best of you!

You are always so honest with me, whether something looks good on me or how to deal with difficult situations, and for that and everything you do for our family, you are greatly appreciated. You are so loved by everyone you come in contact with and you put others' needs before your own, which makes you such a compassionate person. The bottom line is "We are literally the same person, looks and personality. I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to say that I have such a beautiful mother, inside and out, with a big heart, who is there for me in a heartbeat, when I'm down, and need someone to talk to.

Any girl would wish to have a mother like you, who is cool, fun, and one who always wants the best for her daughter. You are the FIRST I call when I have good or bad news, and are the BEST advice giver when I am in need of it. You always want the best for me and to have fun with my friends like. An example of this is when I celebrated my 19th birthday this year. You wanted me to have fun, and enjoy myself, because I spent my eighteenth birthday in the hospital. However, it was one of the best because of all my friends who came to celebrate with me. I'm forever grateful for all you have done for me. When we are together, (24/7) there is never a dull moment and we are always gossiping and it's always filled with laughter and tears.

I know now our family is going through a lot right now, with Dad and I taking turns in the hospital, without you, nothing would be possible. You keep us together. You are the glue, and Dad is our rock. You are the absolute strongest woman I have ever met, and I admire that. Although I hate seeing you cry when you are upset, as someone once said,

Crying isn't an indication that you are weak, it is because you have been so strong for too long"

That quote is so perfect for you because you are so strong and so proud of everything you do. "All that I am and ever hope to be, I owe it to my loving mother""

Our family is so blessed to have you. I love you Mom and hope to be half the woman you are when I get older.

Your Loving Daughter,

Brianna

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
