A Letter To My Military Brothers

As much as we bicker and argue, thank you, for all that you do.

A Letter To My Military Brothers
Lauren Carpenter

With Memorial Day right around the corner, I just wanted to send the utmost respect for those fighting for our country, including my brothers.

I have four brothers, three of which have served or are currently serving in the United States Military. All of which I am so grateful for what they have done and continue to do for our country.

I guess this article is to really to say thank you to my brothers, and also a "you suck" for making me miss you guys so much.

To be honest, I never would've guessed that you three would enlist, mostly because you all are my brothers. Also, maybe because Mom could never bear the sight of you guys of leaving. I always expected you guys just to go to college, get a job, find a nice girl, then I would finally be the cool aunt. Well, that didn't happen. Number one, I'm still waiting to be a cool aunt, I'm not getting any younger here!

As a kid, you guys annoyed me like crazy, stealing my stuffed animal (her name was Angel), marking X's over my Jonas Brothers posters, or "forgetting" to pick me up from school, yeah I'm talking about you Marshall. We've been through so many ups and downs, but seriously, all three of you are my best friends, whether you boys agree or not.

We are older now and I have looked up to you countless times. I know that you guys will always have my back because let's face it, I will always have yours. I missed you guys a lot, not talking every day, y'all buying me food, or laying on the couch in the game room watching movies. With two of you going overseas, missing Christmas and Thanksgiving it just didn't feel like it used to. Our home wasn't the same, but that's okay because I knew it was the right choice.

I know that I annoyed you all right back, but that is what a little sister is supposed to do. Hopefully, you guys look back on how much fun we had as kids, even if I did happen to tattle tale once or twice (or many times) on you.

Basically, what I am getting at, is how happy I am with the way your life has gone and how thankful I am to have you boys as my brothers. Although you three joining the military was something I never expected, I am truly grateful for all that you do for me and for everyone else in this country.

To all of those little sisters with brothers in the military, you don't realize how lucky you are. You have a brother who not only will do anything for you no matter the circumstance AND is in one of the most honorable jobs and experiences that one can have.

I love you guys lots, ya know. Thanks for being the best big brothers around.

Love,

your favorite and ONLY sister.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
