A Letter To My Long-Distance BFFs

I haven't forgotten about you.

A Letter To My Long-Distance BFFs

Even though we are now miles apart, I still miss you.

Don't get me wrong, I love college. But I will forever cherish our memories from the four years stuck in the jail-like purgatory they called high school. From early morning hikes, to sunset beach trips, to getting Mexican food all hours of the day -- I miss it all.

Some think that missing your high school friends means you're living in the past. I say it's reminiscing about the people who made you who you are today. Without you, I wouldn't understand the meaning of true, unconditional friendship. You have seen me at my best, and at my worst. And by my worst, I mean my brace-face days (a huge thank you for sticking by my side through that rough time). You have been there for me through all my awkward struggles, and been my person to lean on when times got tough.

I think the distance makes our friendship stronger. Now when we do finally get a Wi-Fi connection bearable enough to actually be able to have a conversation and catch up, it means so much more. We don't take each other for granted and those short conversations mean more than you could ever know.

I definitely stalk you on all social media more than one person should... It makes me happy to see all the new friends you have made. Yes, sometimes I get jealous when I see all the pictures you're posting. But only because I wish I was the one doing all those fun things with you. I truly am so grateful for these new friends you have made. Now I can know that you will have someone to share secrets with and text at 2 a.m. when you really need fast food.

If you get a bunch of notifications on Instagram from me liking your pictures, it's only because I miss you.

No matter how many friends I make away at college, just know you'll always have a special place in my heart. Even though we may be in different time zones, different states, different towns, different colleges, I still consider you one of my closest friends. And I don't plan on that changing any time soon.

Here's to many more FaceTime dates, handwritten letters, and reunion hugs at the airport.

xoxo,

your long-distance BFF

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
