A Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend

A Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend
Brittney Zivcsak

Dear Far Away (Best) Friend,

Since the age of four, you have been my person. Just like Meredith had Christina, I had, and still have, you. We did everything together: shared clothes, went to the mall and spent too much money on clothes we were never going to wear, etc. You were always the one that sat up late with me to talk about the piece of crap I was dating. Without you, my life would not have been the same.

When the day came that I woke up to a moving truck at the bottom of your driveway, I sat in my window for hours because it didn’t seem real. What was I going to do without you? That is why I am here to say thank you.

Thank you for immediately responding to the screenshots from boys I don't know how to respond to. Thank you for also keeping me updated with the drama on Twitter since I am never up to date with it all.

Thank you for the late night Facetimes that keep me awake longer than they should. Actually, thank you for the Facetimes in general, no matter the time of day.

Thank you for letting me borrow your clothes when I don't pack enough when I visit. Thank you for sharing your bed when I visit, too.

Thank you for eating the entire bowl of Buffalo Chicken dip with me so that I don't feel like a fatty and sharing the guilt when it's all gone. Thank you for letting me have the last glass of wine when I had a bad day and then laying on the couch and watching Christmas Vacation in the middle of July.

Thank you for being there no matter what, regardless of how far away you are.

Thank you for overnighting the phone chargers I left behind, along with the clothes that got hung up in your closet.

Thank you for the laughs, thank you for the cries, and every emotion in between.

Thank you being the first to text me when something good happens, and being the first to call me when something bad happens. Also, thank you for sitting next to your phone to immediately respond when I send an SOS.

Thank you for being honest with me, even when you want to sugarcoat things.

Thank you for making the time for me when you travel home. You have so many other friends to see, but you always make time for me.

Thank you for being another sister to me, someone that I can always count on. You never once gave up on us just because you were in a different state. You continued to text me and call me and check in to make sure I was surviving in the small town you once called home. I miss you and so does the cul-de-sac we used to ride roller blades around. You are my best friend, and nothing, not even 437 miles, will change that.

Love,

Home and Missing You

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
