To My Little Sister

Who's not so little anymore.

To My Little Sister
Sonia Potter

Dear Sister,

I remember the day Mom and Dad brought you home from the hospital. It was so neat to see your tiny fingers and toes, bald little head, and cute little face. You are the first baby I ever remember seeing.

The image of you as a baby still remains in my head, so it's strange to see how you've grown into a young woman. Your transition from a cute little baby to a sweet, kind, spunky, teenager has really been something special to witness.

Before I start talking about how awesome you are, I obviously have to congratulate you on having such a cool and attractive sister. Although having me as a sister was never really in your control, you really lucked out big time! However, I lucked out, too--maybe even more than you did.

You are my best friend. You are the one who has been here for me through thick and thin. Somehow, you're always available on random weeknights when I want to go out to eat, and you're there on the weekends when I feel like staying in. You're my favorite person to stay up late talking with.

You're spunky and witty, and I often wish I were as funny as you. You make me laugh more than anybody else with your snarky comments. You are smart, kind, and assertive, and I'm so proud of you for the wonderful person you're growing into.

Sometimes, I can't even believe how beautiful you are. Not just with your gorgeous hair, skin, and smile, but within you--in your soul. You radiate with a light that I strive to emulate. Although you may be younger than me, you will always be one of my role models.

You're just the best. However, what kind of big sister would I be if I didn't give you unsolicited advice once in a while?

Remember: Never settle for less than you deserve (you deserve the best, and anything less than that is not worth your time).

Don't be afraid to be yourself. You are a beautiful human being (even if you are a little weird sometimes), and there is no reason you should ever act in a way that is inconsistent with who you are. Be authentically you.

Always love yourself. Love your mind, love your body, and love your spirit. You are unique, and you are perfect in every way. Don't let anybody ever tell you otherwise

Stand up for what you believe in. You have a voice, and you deserve to be heard.

Enjoy every moment. Life is a gift, and things can change in the blink of an eye. Make the most of every day. Spend time with the people you love. Have fun.

I'm so glad to have you as my baby sister (who's not really a baby anymore). I'm so excited to continue to watch you grow up and share my days with you. Thanks for always being my best friend.

Love,

Your Sister

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
