A Letter To My High School Friends

Thank you for all the memories.

A Letter To My High School Friends
Alison Moore

Well, hello there, stranger.

How have you been? It is hard to believe we have been out of high school for about a year now. I remember we were all stressing out about the ACT or SAT so we could get into that dream college of ours. We would constantly think that we ran the school and could do what we wanted whenever such as roaming the halls when we were supposed to be in class. Senior year was something that I will always remember thanks to all of you. You filled it with many memories.

It is so weird that we barely even talk now. We keep up with one another on social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We occasionally comment on something one of us has posted, and that is when all the memories come flooding back. Just this week I have been seeing all of y'all's pictures from your amazing times on spring break. I sometimes wish we would have kept in touch better over this past year. We all were told that you will most likely lose touch with you high school friends and unfortunately, I have seen that that is true.

I hope you are doing well. Since we barely talk anymore, I have no clue what all you have experienced and went through without me. Its crazy how we go to pending all of our time with the same people for four years and then after a year at college, we have made completely new friends and barely speak.

The memories from cheerleading games, classes when we did absolutely nothing in and lunches that we had the weirdest conversations at will forever be engraved in my memory. The endless number of pictures I took throughout the years will always be available for me to reminisce on and think back the days when all we cared about was the latest gossip about who was dating who and what we made on the easy little test.

As we all now by now, high school is nothing compared to college. The one class we thought was so tough in high school is our easiest in college. I hope you all are succeeding in your college career and if not, it is OK. College is tough, and as long as you are trying your absolute hardest, it will be worth it.

Lastly, I want to thank you. Thank you for giving me the best high school experience a girl could have. Thank you for being there for me when I needed you and being amazing friends. Hopefully we will all catch up soon but for now keeping up with y'all on social media will have to do. Keep striving to do your best and do not let that guy/or girl ruin your college experience. Take in every moment you get and do not be afraid to put down those notes you have been studying for hours and go make new memories for you to remember forever.

Love,

Your high school friend

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
