An Open Letter To My Grandparents

Dear Grandma and Grandpa,

Thank you! I know those two words will never truly amount to the gratefulness I have for you both in my heart, but it's the best and simplest way to put it. Thank you for the love that you gave me. Not only while growing up, but the love you provided me before I existed, the love that you encouraged my parents to have for me, the love that you waited in anticipation about 9 months for...... That love.

Thank you for always supporting me! Even when my parents were not exactly on board with what I wanted to do with my free time (ex: gymnastics, soccer, and even rugby) You didn't question my choices in negativity, you questioned my choices in enthusiasm, and couldn't wait to come support me at my game or match!

As I grew older you always kept your best quality, which was listening. If there is one thing that I can appreciate most is that factor! Whether it was a funny story, asking about school/university, or just hearing my dreams of what I want to do and be in life, you have always sat down and listened well!

I appreciate you both always being the most stable thing in my life! When I come home from college, my routine trips to your house never changed and as I grow older I think that is a constant factor I need to keep in my life.

You make me feel important, you make me feel needed! You are a part of one of the greatest support systems, that made me who I am today!

As I now begin to enter into adulthood, all I was to do is make you proud! Show you that all of the love you gave me did justice in this world.

I love you so much,

Your Loving Grandchild

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
