A Letter To My Graduating Sibling

I'm so proud of you!

A Letter To My Graduating Sibling
Alicia Klingerman

To my graduating sibling,

Congratulations! You did it! You're finally graduating. Maybe I shouldn't be saying "finally" because I'm sure you feel like the time flew by. Either way, I'm so proud of you for all of your hard work over these past few years. I can't wait to see where the future takes you. No matter where you go, I know that you will do amazing things.

It has been a wild ride. You were my original partner in crime from birth, and I know we will only have more adventures ahead of us in life. I will always be with you in heart even if distance ends up separating us in the future.

You have been such an amazing, inspiring person for me to look up to. Your work ethic is admirable, and you always work to help others and be positive. I love everything about you. I'll always be your number one fan and cheerleader. Never forget, I'm only a phone call away.

Graduation is such an amazing accomplishment. All of your hard work is finally paying off, and I know how great of a feeling that is. The studying and the stress seem less painful now that it's all reaping a reward. Now you can take your brain full of knowledge and experience out into the world and put it to work.

I know that your future is so bright because you have a million possibilities and opportunities ahead of you. You're going to make a difference in the world, and I can't wait to see how you do it. You inspire me to be better, to work harder and to strive to be more selfless. You exemplify everything that I hope to turn out to be like, and I can't thank you enough for that.

I know that, as siblings, we've had our fair share of arguments. There have been screaming matches, physical fights and maybe even a few broken bones. It was definitely a love/hate relationship when we were younger, and at times it still is, but I would do anything for you. I hope you know that. Being siblings is a bond that binds us together for life, and there's nothing you could do that would make me love you less... Unless you keep taking my clothes or eating my food... Then we might have some problems.

In all seriousness, I'm so proud to know you, love you and be related to you. You are a bright light in this world, and I know that you will continue to shine as you move forward with your future. You can accomplish anything that you set your mind to. Don't ever forget that.

It's time to take on the big, scary, real world. I know that you'll do great, and you have nothing to be afraid of. You're ready for this next step, and I'm so excited to see where life takes you. I'll be thinking of you constantly. I love you! Congrats again, grad. You did it.

Love,

Your admiring sibling

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
