An Open Letter to My Roommate

Living with someone can make or break a friendship, but living with you has only proven the strength our friendship has.

To My Amazing Roommate,

When I first moved into my dorm, I had this idea that my roommates and I would be lifelong friends. I blame all of the cheesy early 2000's movies I watched, because the college roommates in those movies always got along.

As you know, that's definitely not the relationship I had with my first set of roommates. They were less than spectacular, but when I moved in with you I finally got the kind of roommate every girl dreams of having in college.

I'm so thankful I can live with someone that supports me in everything I do. Whether it's supporting my career path or the crazy things I do in school, you push me to be the best version of myself and you make sure I get my stuff done. You support my makeup obsession and my love home decor.

I know I can be a handful sometimes and my obsessive tendencies about the dishes is probably very annoying. But you love me anyways. The nights when both of us are home and we can just watch movies together and catch up are nights that I'll always remember.

Thank you for helping with me through my heart break and making sure I always know that I'm better than some boy who doesn't want me. There are times when I think I'm fine and then all of a sudden the pain hits me like a bus. But you're always there to help me and remind me that I'm better off without him. And sometimes you yell at me for even mentioning him because you know I need to hear it.

Thank you for going on random shopping adventures with me and always being up to share a pizza with me. Let's face it, college sucks and there are those nights when all you want is pizza. Even at 3:00 in the morning. You support my 3am pizza needs and that's a special quality.

Thank you for taking care of me when I'm sick and for making sure I always go to class/work. Despite my love for sleep. Thank you for embracing my love of not wearing pants and for only laughing at me for a little bit when you come home to me in an outrageous face mask.

Thank you for watching hours of Say Yes To The Dress and Jersey Shore with me and loving every minute of it. Thank you for sharing my love of throwback music and dancing with me to Jesse McCartney on a Tuesday night instead of doing our homework (which we usually regret later but it's too much fun not to do).

I never had a sister but living with you feels like I finally got one, as disgustingly lame as that sounds. We get on each others nerves, no doubt, but we have one hell of a time together and that's what having a roommate is supposed to be like.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
