A Letter To My Foreign Friends

Bonjour, Hallo, Hola and Hej!

It is crazy to think about how long ago I last saw you. It seems like a lifetime ago when we were together, yet I still consider you some of my best friends. No amount of time or number of miles can ever distance you from my heart. You are each so important to me, and I cannot wait until the day we meet again (hopefully very soon).

I cannot thank you enough for coming into my life and opening my mind in so many ways. You brought adventure into my life and introduced me to the passion of exploration. You encourage me to dream and motivate me to reach my goals. There was never a time that you made me feel incapable or less than, and I am so grateful for that.

One of the most important things our friendship has taught me is to value the small things that I take for granted every day. Seeing my world through your eyes made me much more appreciative of everything in my life. You made me feel like every day was an adventure, and made every familiar place seem new. Even the most boring aspects of my life became fresh and exciting because of you.

I was the person I wanted to be when I was with you. You offered me true friendship and simple happiness. My time spent with you made me feel carefree and timeless. You showed me that friendship knows no borders, and love can reach all the way around the world.

Saying goodbye to you was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. The worst part was walking away without knowing when we were going to see each other again, but this saddness only inspired me to work harder so that I could make sure we meet again soon.

There are no words to describe how much I miss each of you. I find myself daydreaming often about when I will see you next. There is no greater joy and excitement than when I think about being with you after being apart for so long. I look forward to the day I can be by your side once again, hopefully exploring your own homes. Until then, just know I am thinking of you, and longing to be where you are.

Sending Love from America,

Your Foreign Friend

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
