Dear family members, friends, and acquaintances,
The Internet is an amazing invention. One thing the Internet allows us to do is connect with old friends, high school sweet hearts, old college roommates, and everybody in between. Facebook, along with other social media sites, can be a wonderful thing. It is is a great way to keep in touch with family members that live in other states, friends that have moved away, and for the shy people, a great way to meet people. Other things can be shared on there as well like funny videos and heart warming videos, a favorite of mine being military homecomings. However, when people start to abuse the power of the Internet and use a website like Facebook to attack other people or use it for a a negative purposes it is not such a wonderful thing anymore, now is it?
It is no secret that as the days go by this world gets crazier. It seemed like every day an even more controversial topic than they day's before pops up, whether it be about the LGBTQ community, politics and which candidate is better (or worse), or gun rights. A big one a little while back was which bathroom people should use. Like, are you kidding me? I saw some pretty nasty posts about that and I know you all are smarter than that. I get it, we all have out own opinions about each one, whether you really care or not. Just by quickly checking my phone while waiting in the checkout line at Walmart I can see which of you are for or against guns, who think the gun laws should be more strict or not, and who can or cannot even fathom the idea of somebody being transgender.
NEWSFLASH: nobody really cares if you hate Trump and think he is going to turn this country into rubble. The only way you could help in preventing that would be by going to the polls and voting on Election Day.
Be proactive instead of sitting there with your face behind a computer screen. When somebody shows their support for something you should not feel the need to comment negativity on something. The Bill of Rights says that we have the right to frees peach, but why waste that putting somebody down?
I think we have all lost sight of what Facebook and the rest of the Internet is really meant for. The next time you see something you don't agree with, try not to comment on it in a negative way. If you really feel like you need to voice your opinion, don't be mean or condescending about it.
